4 Tips On Hiring A Great Lawyer In Dubai!

The process of hiring a lawyer can often be just as stressful as the situation that forced you into seeking legal help in the first place!

This is especially true in a city like Dubai, where there is an abundance of attorneys and lawyers, each offering expert advice on everything from family matters to corporate affairs.

So, how do you choose one that’s right for you?

Here are 5 smart tips you should keep in mind:

1.     Ask friends and family first

Start by asking for referrals from the people you trust, including friends, family, and any professional advisors you regularly consult with.

Legal affairs are a very sensitive matter, and not every lawyer you find is going to be trustworthy or honest.

Ask people in your inner circle about how their experience has been with different legal firms and individuals, and if possible, also consult directly with a lawyer someone you know has previously hired.

They may not offer expertise in the field you require, but they’ll definitely know advocates in Dubai who are perfect for the job.

2.     Research the internet

Once you have a few names, look them up on the internet.
Pay close attention to what they say about themselves, the experience they have in the industry, their case history, and the testimonials they’ve received from other clients. This will give you a good idea of what to expect.

We also recommend getting in touch with a few of the attorney’s past clients. Ask them how their experience was, and if the lawyer caused any problems during the entire process.

3.     Think about your needs

Law firms come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, and you’ll need to consider your own needs before you start meeting up with potential lawyers.

Grab a pen and paper, and write down some of things you’d ideally like to discuss during the meetings. This can include:
  •  How much they will charge
  • How both parties are going to communicate
  • What their legal procedure will look like
  • Any added consultancy services they will offer after being hired
  • Their experience in the relevant field
  • A brief history of some of the cases they’ve won and lost
  • How they’ve dealt with situations similar to yours before
  • Some of the awards they’ve won
  • Who will be dealing with your case primarily, the paralegals or the lawyers themselves?
The last point in particular is very important. A lot of big law firms will let paralegals and legal assistants handle smaller cases while the main attorneys deal with the major clients. This can cause trust issues later on, so should be dealt with beforehand.

4.     Contact the attorney and set up a meeting

Now that you have a list prepared and know what questions you’ll need to ask, start calling your shortlisted advocates in Dubai and set up some meetings.

Keep in mind that most law firms will charge you a small fee for the consultation. This can usually be adjusted in the bill later if both parties come to an agreement.

The most important thing you’ll want to discuss at these meetings is the fee structure! Attorneys usually charge in one of three ways:

  •  A flat one-time fee
  • By the hour
  • A contingency fee (A percentage of the sum you receive from a successful trial or settlement when you sue someone for monetary damages).

Remember: The lawyer-client relationship is usually for life. Make sure you pick someone you know can get you out of even the stickiest of situations!
